Confident Steps is a 12-week program designed for adults 55+ who want to prevent falls, move safely, and stay strong.
Through small-group training (maximum of 4 people per class), we combine proven fall prevention strategies, safe falling techniques, and recovery skills to help you live confidently at home and in your community.

My Why...

I started Sparrow Functional Fitness because I’ve seen firsthand how one fall can change everything.
In 2019, my mother-in-law fell and broke her hip. She never walked again and passed away later that year.
As an Occupational Therapy Assistant, I also worked with clients who remained on the floor for hours after a fall — sometimes days.
Those experiences inspired Confident Steps, a program designed to prevent life-changing falls and teach people how to recover safely if one happens.

How Our Program Reduces Fall Risks

Safe Ways to Get Up After a Fall

Particiapnt  learning how to safely fall

  • 12-week structured progression

  • 45-minute weekly sessions

  • Maximum 4 participants per group

  • Pre- and post-outcome testing (TUG, 30-Sec Chair Stand, 4-Stage Balance, Functional Reach)

  • Led by a Certified Functional Aging Specialist & Occupational Therapy Assistant

  • Includes educational handouts and take-home exercises

Many people who fall, even if they're not injured, become afraid of falling. This fear may cause a person to cut down on their everyday activities. When a person is less active, they become weaker and this increases their chances of falling.

After years of working in healthcare, I became frustrated with watching people have one fall and their lives would forever be changed. Or worse, a fear of falling and giving up on enjoying life. I knew I could change that.

I started Sparrow Functional Fitness to help persons of all ages and abilities live their BEST life!!! 
I'm Mandy Self-Sparrow and I am a Functional Aging Specialist, Personal Trainer, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Stretch Coach, a Tai Chi Instructor and a Nutrition Coach.
